Now more than ever, the right software choice can mean the difference between a product that is useful and helps save the department money or something that sits on the shelf and wastes precious department resources.

2010 has all of the markings of an even tighter year for funding. It is becoming clear that software like PubWorks succeeds because of cost saving efficiencies. We understand tight public infrastructure budgets and the need to do more with less.

This newsletter highlights how not all software programs are created equally and what we are learning from customers who are dropping their very expensive, complicated systems and choosing PubWorks as the logical replacement.

Take a look at the tool that every department will want when creating and managing their sign inventory – PubWorks’  Asset Data Collector. The federal mandate for sign retro reflectivity is not going away. PubWorks ADC is the tool you need to inventory your signs as well as manage them; no matter what management method you use.

Don’t forget to take a look at our customer contest – YOU MAY BE THIS QUARTER'S WINNER.

Please view our Events Calendar – Pete Anzalone, founder of PubWorks, will be part of a panel discussion on Asset Management, April 21, 2010 at the APWA Western Slope Spring Conference in Grand Junction, Colorado.

2009 One For The Record Books

According to a new survey by the Washington-based National Association of Counties (NACo), while the current budget crisis is the worst in nearly two decades, many survey respondents said they expect next year to be harder still.

Nearly half of the responding counties, 47 percent, said that their anticipated budget shortfalls this fiscal year were worse than expected, and four out of five respondents (82 percent) said the shortfalls would continue into their next fiscal year.

HOW DO THEY DO THAT:

No Work Order Required

Unlike the competition, entering employee time sheets is a simple, straightforward transcription from employee paper based forms to the PubWorks activity screen.

PubWorks does not require a pre-defined and perhaps unnatural work order for you to enter data about work performed. Our software is designed to work the way your department works.

The idea of management software to reduce waste and streamline accountability is no longer a luxury item for the “go-the-extra-mile” guy, but a foundation tool that has come into its own.

For the US and World economy, the past year was one of the worst in history, how could PubWorks have had its best year?

That can only be answered by the words and actions of our newest customers. In the last quarter alone, PubWorks had a record number of new accounts including three that have switched from our competition.

The message is clear:

PubWorks speaks to the needs of customers.

When head count is reduced, increased efficiencies are the only answer. With PubWorks, input time for worker hours and work activities is less than one minute per employee, per day.

“I thought you would like to hear that the lady that enters time cards always left me notes regarding problems with our old system, i.e., entering, reporting, you name it. The note I got after she entered her time cards in PubWorks -- "I LOVE PubWorks. Everything went very smoothly. “

What good is a Fleet Maintenance Program if you can’t import your fueling system transactions?

The key to a good fleet maintenance program is the ability to communicate with other programs and effortlessly integrate their data.  PubWorks will read Gasboy™, Fuelman™ or any other fueling system’s transactions and import hundreds of detailed records in seconds. No hand entry, no typos, no wasted time - just accuracy and efficiency!

The competition requires that you first build a custom form and then hand enter all transactions. Imagine the potential for errors! Imagine the accidental duplications.

Welcome

New

Customers!

Documentation is key and the driving factor for Webb City, Missouri

We’re pleased to welcome Webb City, MO as a new PubWorks customer. Webb City is in Jasper County, the southwest corner of Missouri near the geographical center of the United States. Situated on the Ozark Plateau, Webb City, MO is 982 feet above sea level.

The fine reputation of the school district, the attraction of small town life, safe neighborhoods, and a low cost of living have been driving real estate demand in the Webb City area.

The Public Works Department purchased PubWorks to help manage all its various divisions with one, easy-to-use centralized program. Webb City is using the PubWorks Asset Management Core as well as Service Requests, Work Orders, Fleet Maintenance and the GIS MapViewer.

The PW Director Lou Gutheil, has a strong management background and understands the ability and efficiencies of good Asset Management as well as the benefit of good documentation. He knew PubWorks would be helpful as a management tool, but a surprise EPA audit turned up the fact that he had "inadequate documentation" of the work his department performed. This underscored the need for change and triggered a call to action. Lou believes that as far as the EPA is concerned if there is "no documentation, then the work didn't happen."  After looking at three or four products, Lou said it wasn't a difficult choice. The web site had a lot to do with his decision making process and the mailed packet along with the knowledgeable sales team, drove him to a higher level of interest. Our pre-demo power point slide stating that We Document Work resonated very loudly with him and his co-workers. Lou is very interested in pursuing preventative maintenance initiatives that will ultimately reduce his demand maintenance requirements.

Apache-Sitgreaves can see the Forest and the Trees

We’re pleased to welcome the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest as a new PubWorks customer. The Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests, administered as one national forest, encompass over two million acres of magnificent mountain country in east-central Arizona. The National Forest ranges in elevation from 3,500 feet to nearly 11,500 feet and is named for the tribes that settled in this area. The area from Mount Baldy east to Escudilla Mountain is often referred to as the White Mountains of Arizona.

PubWorks was purchased to help manage the numerous facilities located throughout the forests. With four ranger districts, encompassing 34 lakes and reservoirs and more than 680 miles of rivers and streams - more than can be found in any other Southwestern National Forest, the forest service needed a software system to help them maintain all the operational and recreational facilities across this vast area.
